What’s behind Codemotion’s vision and mission?

In the vision statement, all the elements guide how we see the future based on technology. It is not related only to the developers of our community. Still, it talks about the commitment we have throughout the new generations, the fighting against the gender gap, diversity and inclusion. In Codemotion, they are not only trendy words to position ourselves as an incredible company, but something in which we genuinely believe.

In the past months, you have probably noticed the importance of reminding you of our Vision and Mission statement, the value proposition, company values and goals.

This information is vital to give us a guide in your day-by-day work.

Codemotion has been the first workplace for many of you, so we want to explain well what Vision and Mission are and why they are essential.

What is a Vision and Mission statement?

A Vision Statement describes the desired future position of the company. A vision statement focuses on tomorrow and what an organization wants to ultimately become. Having purpose and meaning are critical for any business.

The vision statement gives the company direction. It is the future of the business, which then provides the purpose.
The vision statement is about what you want to become. It is aspirational.
Vision statement questions look like this:

  • What are our hopes and dreams?
  • What problem are we solving for the greater good?
  • Who and what are we inspiring to change?

A Mission Statement defines the company’s business, objectives, and approach to reach those objectives.
A mission statement focuses on today and what an organization does to achieve it.

The mission statement drives the company. It is what you do/the core of the business, and from it comes the objectives and, finally, what it takes to reach those objectives. It also shapes the company’s culture.
Mission statement questions look like this:

  • What do we do?
  • Whom do we serve?
  • How do we help them?

Why are they essential inside and outside a company?

Internally

  • Guide management’s thinking on strategic issues, especially during times of significant change
  • Help define performance standards
  • Inspire employees to work more productively by providing focus and common goals
  • Guide employee decision making
  • Help establish a framework for ethical behavior

Externally

  • Enlist external support
  • Create closer linkages and better communication with customers, suppliers and alliance partners
  • Serve as a public relations tool.

Writing down our vision and mission statement was one of the first activities to start Codemotion’s transformation into a love brand. We started from Codemotion’s pay-off, “We code the future. Together.”. It is not only the point of view of the community and devs, but it is the point from which we should set our way of working every day. In this pay-off, all our values are involved! Together means we must be One Team. Future means that we are all accountable for thinking big about what we could do. “We code” stands for “We love developers”, who are always the center of our work.

So what is behind Codemotion’s vision and mission?
In the vision statement, all the elements guide how we see the future based on technology. It is not related only to the developers of our community. Still, it talks about the commitment we have throughout the new generations, the fighting against the gender gap, diversity and inclusion. In Codemotion, they are not only trendy words to position ourselves as an incredible company, but something in which we genuinely believe.

This “future” passes through the construction of the most impactful tech community. With “impactful”, we want to underline the importance we give to devs because their job can really change the world for the better, thanks to the innovation they can bring.
It is crucial to bear Vision and Mission in mind: they are not only written on our website, on the wall of our offices or on the slides to show how cool we are, but we want them to be a guide for your day by day job.

So whenever you feel down about what you are doing, remember our Vision and Mission. Link them to the significant achievements you can gain and how your work can impact the future.
